Kalani High School Alumni Musicians Reunite in Greenwood Band to Perform at Kalani’s Super Reunion.

Kalani Greenwood  Alumni - Pictured top row, left to right:    Robin Kimura ’75 (Bass/Vocals – Greenwood founder); Alan Nakamoto ’75 (Trumpet); Warren Cone ’75 (Trumpet); Brian Yanagi ’75 (Trombone);  bottom row:  Jarry Gomes ’75 (Trumpet); Bradley Choi ’75 (Drums); Owen Kajiwara ’73 (Guitar/Vocals – older brother of Alvin Kajiwara ‘75).

Kalani High School alumni musicians reunited to perform in “Greenwood,” at the unprecedented Kalani Super Reunion of five classes (1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975) on July 5, 2008 at the Waialae Country Club, playing songs from the ‘70’s.  Greenwood, originally formed in 1972 and primarily composed of Kalani students, was well known statewide on the high school dance circuit, as well as the Waikiki night club scene.    The Kalani Super Reunion was an electrifying evening, attended by over 250 participants including retired faculty members, and included a slide show of every class, silent auction, raffle, dancing and reminiscing of the days of our youth.

VP's expressed that they really want to get more involved with all Kalani's alumni (for mutual benefit) and alumni events and really are looking forward to our Kalani 5- O event as a springboard into making this a reality for all future alumni events. They have invited all of us, The Class of 1975, to their homecoming game against Kaimuki at Kaiser's field on October 22, 2007. The JV will start about 4 PM and the Varsity will probably start about 630 PM. They invite everyone to wear their Kalani colors and show their current students how to express the school spirit! (Apparently the students these days are a lot more subdued than in our "time"). So if you could put something about this on our class website, the Kalani VP's would appreciate it.
Also it will be Kalani's 50th Anniversary next year and Kalani will be having a luau in Kalani's cafeteria on February 16, 2008 and a anniversary party on July 12, 2008 (the place might be changed to the Marriott Hotel as apparently Kalani is "adopted" by Marriott so they can get a better deal and the presentation would be a lot nicer there than at the NBC exhibition room, but they can't fit as many people there)
